Carpooling in Morocco: safety and good practice

Carpooling works when everyone is prepared

Sharing a car between cities is practical, economical and social. Like any shared activity, it works best when both sides take a few simple precautions. This guide gathers the habits that make trips safer and more pleasant, for passengers and for drivers.

For passengers

Before you book

  • Read the driver's profile. Look for a verified badge, how long the account has existed and the reviews from previous travellers.
  • Check the details of the trip. Route, date, departure time, number of seats and price should be clear.
  • Agree on the price beforehand. With cash paid directly to the driver, there should be no surprises: confirm the amount, whether luggage is included and where you will be dropped off.
  • Use the in-app chat to confirm details, so there is a written record.

On the day

  • Meet in a public, well-lit place such as a station, a petrol station or a busy square. Avoid isolated spots.
  • Check the driver and the car. Does the person match the profile? Does the vehicle match the description, and does the plate number match what was shared with you?
  • Share your trip. Send the driver's name, the car model and plate, the route and your estimated arrival time to a family member or a friend, and let them know when you arrive.
  • Keep your phone charged and your ID with you.
  • Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, do not get in. You can cancel and look for another ride.
  • Buckle up in every seat, including the back.

If you prefer women-only

MySeatGO offers a women-only preference so that women can choose to travel with women. Use it if it makes you more comfortable.

For drivers

  • Complete your profile and verification. A verified profile builds trust and gets more requests.
  • Describe your trip honestly: meeting point, departure time, the number of seats and your rules on luggage, music, smoking or pets.
  • Do not overload the car. Never carry more passengers than there are seats and seat belts, and respect the vehicle's capacity for luggage.
  • Check your car before a long trip: tyres, lights, brakes, fluids and fuel.
  • Follow the highway code: speed limits, safe distances, no phone use while driving. Take regular breaks and avoid driving when tired.
  • Be punctual and communicate if you are delayed.
  • Treat everyone with respect, whatever their age, gender or background.

Parcels: be careful

MySeatGO also supports parcel transport, which can be helpful, but it needs care:

  • Never carry a package you cannot inspect, or whose contents you do not know. A sealed parcel from a stranger can contain something illegal or dangerous, and you are the one responsible.
  • Ask the sender to describe the contents and, ideally, show them.
  • Refuse anything that looks suspicious or that you are asked to carry without questions.
  • Agree on pick-up, delivery and who receives it.

Money and payment

Payment is in cash directly to the driver, with no commission from the app. To keep things clear:

  • Confirm the total before departure.
  • Bring small change if possible.
  • Do not pay in advance to a person you have not met, and be wary of anyone who asks for an advance transfer or personal financial details.

Reviews and reports

After the trip, leave an honest review. Reviews help the next traveller and encourage good behaviour. If something went wrong, such as dangerous driving, harassment or a refusal to respect the agreed terms, use the app's reporting tools so the team can act. In an emergency, contact local emergency services immediately.

A quick safety checklist

  1. Verified profile and positive reviews.
  2. Price and meeting place agreed in writing.
  3. Public meeting point.
  4. Identity, car and plate checked.
  5. Trip details shared with someone you trust.
  6. Seat belts on for everyone.
  7. No overloading, no unknown parcels.
