Why people send parcels with travellers
Every day, drivers travel between Moroccan cities with some free space in their car. Sending a parcel with a driver already making the trip can be faster and more flexible than traditional options, especially for small or urgent items. This guide covers how to do it responsibly.
What is suitable to send
Good candidates are items you can describe clearly and that are easy to carry:
- Documents and files, such as paperwork, forms or books.
- Clothes, shoes and everyday goods.
- Gifts and small personal items.
- Spare parts or tools of moderate size.
- Items for a student or a family member living in another city.
Size matters. Be honest about dimensions and weight, because the driver needs to know if it fits in the trunk next to passengers' luggage.
What you must never send
Respect the law and the driver's safety. Do not send:
- Anything illegal, including drugs and counterfeit goods.
- Weapons, explosives or dangerous chemicals.
- Flammable or hazardous materials.
- Cash in large amounts, jewellery or valuables you cannot afford to lose.
- Any package whose contents you do not know. Never accept a sealed parcel from a stranger without knowing what is inside.
- Live animals, unless clearly agreed and permitted.
If you are carrying a parcel for someone, you are responsible for what you transport. When in doubt, refuse.
How to pack well
- Use a sturdy box or strong bag, and close it with tape.
- Protect fragile items with paper or bubble wrap, and mark them as fragile.
- Write the recipient's name and phone number clearly, inside and outside.
- Take a photo of the packed parcel before handing it over.
- Keep it light enough for one person to lift.
Agree on every detail
Before the trip, clarify everything in writing with the driver:
- Pickup place and time, and who will hand over the parcel.
- Drop-off place and time, and who receives it.
- The contents, size and an estimate of the value.
- The price, and when and how it will be paid.
- A way for the recipient to confirm the delivery.
Verify the identity of the person who receives the parcel, and let the recipient know the expected arrival time.
Safety for senders and drivers
- Meet in a public, well-lit place.
- Let the driver look at the contents, which builds trust on both sides.
- Do not share unnecessary personal details.
- Keep exchanges in the app or in writing to avoid misunderstandings.
- Remember that fragile or valuable items are your responsibility. Consider whether a standard parcel service with tracking suits them better.
